Our Foundation

The Paul Barber Foundation (PBF) is a family-run private foundation  based in the Greater Toronto Area that is dedicated to improving the lives of Canadians by supporting transformational life-changing programs.  Our three main pillars are as follows:

  • Elevating girls and women, and promoting gender equality.

  • Helping Youth of all backgrounds to meet their full potential.

  • Supporting arts programs that promote equality regardless of race,  gender, or socio-economic background.

Grant Objectives

The main goal of your project should meet one or more of the following objectives:

  • Help improve gender equality in professions where women* are underrepresented, such as STEM, finance, trades, or entrepreneurship

  • Help young girls* learn about and embrace areas of study where females are underrepresented

  • To facilitate the advancement of women* in leadership positions

* NB: Includes non-binary and all female identifying people, regardless of gender assigned at birth

Special Consideration

Special consideration will be given to programs that also address the following areas:

  • Elevating people from marginalized backgrounds. Where possible, please provide details

  • Inclusivity and diversity

Applications We Will Not Consider

While there are many worthwhile causes in need of funding, the following falls outside the scope of this grant:

  • Projects outside of Canada

  • Programs that are aiming to elevate women & girls in areas where they are NOT underrepresented. Eg. High school graduation, arts and crafts, general resume workshops etc.

  • Projects that do not address the objectives of this grant. We will not be making any special considerations

  • Projects that are only tangentially related to the objectives of this grant. The main goal of your program must align with this grant.

    • Eg. If the main purpose of your program is to help women obtain stable housing, improve their mental health, or remove them from abusive relationships, this is not the right grant for your program.

    • Eg. If the main purpose of your program is to help young girls build community and gain confidence, and there is a small STEM component, this is not the right grant for your program.

We are a small team and we take the time to review every application. Please do not apply if this grant is not right for your program.

This grant has a 2 stage application.  We recognize the great amount of time it takes for nonprofits  to apply for grants and seek to minimize this by introducing a staged application process.

All applicants will go through the same application process. We will not meet with applicants before receiving their application.

Stage 1: Preliminary Application

The Preliminary application will allow us to see a brief overview of your organization and program. From there we will be able to select only those applications that align with the goals of our organization and the goals of this grant. Those who are selected will be asked to fill out a more detailed secondary application.

Stage 2: Secondary application
The secondary application will take a deeper dive into the details of the program, including proposed budget and expenses, goals, outcomes, and participant demographics.
